This. So much. Omg.

it’s not just parents, I’ve faced this kind of bullshit from my peer group in the past. and that was full of supposedly alternative and open minded adults. I faced it at school, from both teachers and other students. Hell, even other ‘crazy’ people will pull this kind of bullshit. :(

It turns out that most people, regardless of how alternative or open-minded or progressive they are, are sort of dumb. I mean I work in mental health, am RIGHT now sorting out my applications for Psych Masters/PhDs for next year and I still have to pull myself up on shit like this occasionally. Usually it’s the Restless/Annoying thing but whatever. People in general are not trained to know how to interpret shit and will generally fall back on what society has fed them which is largely bullshit.

This, so much (unfortunately). I even see it in people trained in clinical psychology.. the people who are most acutely aware of this stuff (I do it too).People are the worst.
